The pattern is this:
-A man coughs at me
-I say "Don't do that," "Don't do that again," or "Stop doing that."
-He walks over to me and then looms over me, saying angrily, "What is it that I did?"
-I try to think of something to say that will stop his escalating aggression without my being placating or getting angrier myself.
-He usually walks away: sometimes he continues to harass me, and sometimes he doesn't.
The conglomerate has caused a lot of men to think that men have the right to abuse women and that women who defend themselves are doing something wrong.
