"'The human being is the only animal who thinks about the future.'"
That is a quote that the author of the book I'm reading quoted from another author.
Perhaps neither of those authors has ever lived with a dog. I know I'm not the only person in the world to whom it seems likely that dogs often think about the future. Dog-thoughts about the future seem to start with the word "When":
-When will the human be out of the room and away from the food on the counter?
-When the human walks into the room, the first thing that will happen is a yell. Then I'll get grabbed by my collar. Then the food will be taken away. I'd better eat fast.
-When will the human be out of the house and away from the couch/bed/chair that I'm never supposed to sleep on?
-When will the human be home so I can go outside/look resentful for a few minutes about being left alone for hours/feel loved?
