It seems likely that whoever was pretending to be Haven Monahan was influenced by the conglomerate. By the fall of 2012, the conglomerate had been in propagandic force for more than two years. First-year students at most colleges during the fall of 2012 would have been 15 or 16 when the conglomerate formed.
