It's how the people who control the entertainment industry prevent its stars from independent thought. The lure of that drug is also how the entertainment industry induces the many people who work in that industry who are not stars to support or refuse to confront the industry's many corruptions, and persuades much of the rest of the world outside that industry that the corruptions are glamorous or at least not of concern.
