Samaritans, Shakespeare On The Commons ads on a public train

July 7, 2015

The Samaritans organization that produced this poster are a suicide prevention hotline.  There are some nice people who answer the phone for that organization, but there are also a lot of people who are poorly trained and emotionally abusive.

About 10 years ago, I called the Samaritans hotline.  The person that I talked to was rude and nasty.  I told him that I had a suicide plan, which I did.  He was so horrible to me throughout the conversation that I finally said "You seem like an a--hole to me; I can't imagine talking to someone who called a crisis line the way that you're talking to me."  He said "Uh huh?  Well, you seem like a b---- to me!  Never call here again; follow your PLAN!"  Then he slammed down the phone

I laughed and cried hysterically for a few hours.  As terrible as it was, there's something funny about a conversation that ends that way.  A few days later, I followed through on most of the suicide plan that I had and just decided not to do it at the last minute.  Much later, I contacted the Samaritans administration and filed a report about what their volunteer had said to me.

The Samaritans hotline is supposed to be anonymous, which it obviously isn't.  I also have to question the ethics of an organization that is supposed to try to prevent suicude and that persecutes someone who is known to be suicidal often because of being bullied, and which places its persecutory ads in or around trains and train stations.

Also; have they not read my discussion of the "Making A Difference" fraud?  It's not a difficult discussion to understand, nor does it take a lot of time to read.

I got out at a station and started writing this page.  I haven't left the station yet.  I just heard a man sneeze at me.

Apparently, the Samaritans are good for a laugh every decade or so; not for the right reasons, but sometimes you have to take what you can get.
