Nobody should be cheering that Kim Davis is in jail.

September 3, 2015

Jail is a dangerous place.  Her prejudice has put her there, which is sad for her.

I'm sure that she has said a lot of offensive things to and about gay people.  That's not an excuse for cheering; she's hurting her own life with what she's doing, and also, she is being legally punished.  You're not supposed to taunt people when your side is winning.  All it's going to do is make the other side angrier and more interested in revenge.

She's obviously not the only bigot in Kentucky.  She's in jail; her supporters aren't, and there's no telling what they'll do if they feel that they are being unreasonably disrespected.  The situation  is volatile enough already without the side that is right being insensitive about being right.

You also don't know what's happening in other parts of the country where her supporters may be clashing with gay people and supporters of gay rights.  Respectful behavior might be difficult to maintain and not always appreciated, but it is never the wrong way to treat people.
