Yahoo wanted my attention?

March 22, 2015

That's a picture from today of an article that's on the first page of the Yahoo website.

This is a picture of part of the article:

Letting other people make the decisions also means not worrying that you'll make a bad decision and not blaming yourself when a wrong decision gets made.

Being an adult means that you choose to live with the concern that you might make the wrong decision and it also means taking responsibility for your decisions.

Women who don't want to worry their little-by-choice heads about making decisions on equal terms with the men whom they have chosen to be lifetime authority figures won't, I guess.  However, women who want equality have to realize that having the rights of human beings also means having the responsibilities; you can't fully shed stereotypes about gender by retreating into parts of those stereotypes when you feel that they offer you an advantage or because they give you a false sense of security.  "He's the man and he makes the decisions" is a belief that won't work as a coping strategy if your husband dies and you are suddenly left to fend for yourself and your children in a world which you have refused to learn to negotiate without a protector.
