I have never used an illegal substance or abused a legal one. However, my psychiatric history of more than 20 years' duration has allowed me to meet more people than I could count who prove how addiction turns people with futures into people with futures in hospitals, halfway houses and homeless shelters, mourning what they lost and what they could have had.
